Nine Flags Festival

Friday October 31, 2008
For over 10 years, the annual Nine Flags Festival in Nacogdoches has celebrated the rich history and culture of Texas' oldest town. The event draws its name from the fact that, due to its unique place in Texas history, Nacogdoches has actually come under the rule of nine flags during its existence as opposed to the traditional 'six flags' that are known to have flown over Texas. The 2008 Nine Flags Festival is set for Nov. 21 - Dec. 13.

(2) Fred Goodwin says:

The Nine Flags are:

French, Spanish, Magee-Gutierrez, Dr. James Long, Mexican, Fredonia Rebellion, Lone Star, Confederate Stars & Bars and United States of America; see:

I think the Magee-Gutierrez, Dr. James Long, and Fredonia Rebellion are a bit of a stretch, but hey, it makes great publicity!
