Smaller, traditional venues offer a unique experience

Texas has a long and storied history of live music performances. While every city in the Lone Star State boasts a modern, large-scale music venue, to get a true Texas live music experience, it's hard to beat some of the traditional Texas dance halls and bars.

1. Gruene Hall

Located just outside New Braunfels, the tiny town of Gruene boasts the state's oldest dance hall. Though small, Gruene Hall regularly attracts some of the biggest names in the Texas music scene.

2. Billy Bob's

With close to 3 acres under one roof, Billy Bob's is certainly "Texas size." The massive nightclub is host to top country music acts, professional bullriding, and plenty of dancing.

3. The Continental Club

The Continental Club has been providing Austin with top-shelf live music since 1957.

4. John T Floore Country Story

The centerpiece of Helotes, John T. Floore's Country Store has been attracting big-name musicians since the 1940s. Today, it's still a favorite stop for many of the Lone Star State's biggest names.

5. Midnight Rodeo

San Antonio's favorite country music nightclub, The Midnight Rodeo has been a fixture of SA nightlife for over 20 years.

6. Luckenbach

Made famous by a Willie Nelson tune, the tiny Hill Country town of Luckenbach continues to symbolize all that is Texas to many. On your next trip to the Lone Star State, don't miss your opportunity to go to the town where "Everybody's Somebody."

7. McGonigal's Mucky Duck

Houston's premier Irish Pub, the Mucky Duck offers live music, food and drink in a uniquely Celtic atmosphere.
