Guide Review - SPI Dolphin Research & Sea Life Nature Center
The SPI Dolphin Research & Sea Life Nature Center is actually located across the bridge from South Padre Island in the quaint community of Port Isabel. However, that is also part of the Center's charm. It is located on the historic Lighthouse Square, directly across from the Point Isabel Lighthouse - the area's most popular attraction. The Center is also sandwiched between several of the area's most popular restaurants, making it easy to grab a bite to eat before or after visiting the center.Inside the center itself, visitors are often awestruck at the amount of locally indigenous fish and marine creatures on display in the ample aquariums. The 'touch tank' is always a favorite for the kids, as is the gift shop where a number of educational and eco-friendly souvenirs are offered.
The Center's 'Adopt-A-Dolphin' program is also popular with visitors. Nearby, several dolphin and bird watching tours are available, notably those offered by Fins 2 Feathers Tours. But, whether you opt for a boat tour or not, a visit to the Dolphin Research and Sea Life Nature Center is an educational and entertaining way to spend the day.
