Day Trips from San Antonio

By

Although San Antonio, Texas' top tourism city, has plenty to see and do inside the city itself, there are also a number of top-rate attractions within a short drive of downtown. San Antonio area tourists and residents alike will enjoy these day trips, all of which are within easy driving distance of the Alamo City.

1. Garner State Park

TPW
Located on the Frio River in Concan, Garner State Park is one of Texas' most popular summer getaways. Whether it's swimming, fishing, paddling, or tubing, most visitors to Garner find a way to get on or in the water. However, there are also "dry" activities such as miniature golf, birding, nature trails, hiking and more.

2. Lake Amistad

Danno Wise
Located near the border town of Del Rio, Lake Amistad was formed when the Rio Grande was dammed in 1969. It's remote location is part of its charm, as are its clear, sprawling waters. Massive Lake Amistad encompasses neary 70,000 surface acres, which are shared between Mexico and the United States.

3. New Braunfels

The very spot wher "floating the Guad" was invented, New Braunfels offers excellent access to Texas' famed Guadalupe River. Float tubing, kayaking, swimming and fishing are just a few of the recreational opportunities available on this stretch of the Guadalupe.

4. Natural Bridge Caverns

An underground wonder, Natural Bridge Caverns shows the family a side of the world they probably haven't seen. In addition to a variety of subterranean tours, Natural Bridge Caverns offers a host of above-ground educational activities for kids of all ages.

5. Fredricksburg

One of the most popular small towns in Texas, Fredericksburg offers visitors quaint shopping and fine dining in a relaxing Hill Country atmosphere. Fredricksburg is also rich in history and is home to several events and festivals throughout the year.

6. Cascade Caverns

Located just outside San Antonio, Cascade Caverns offer visitors a look beneath the surface of the Texas Hill Country. The cavern stays 68 degrees year around - making it a perfect place to beat the summer heat - plus it features a 100 foot underground waterfall!
