Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

From

Houston Arboretum & Nature Center Overview:

The 155-acre arboretum is a peaceful getaway in the heart of Houston. Whether you're looking to learn about nature or just take a peaceful walk, the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center will allow you to escape the concrete jungle, if only for a while.

About Houston Arboretum & Nature Center:

Education is at the heart of the center's mission. Kids can learn about native plants and animals, or adults can take classes to learn how to build a rain barrel. Or you can simply stroll the five miles of trails, which take you through forest, pond, wetland and meadow habitats. Birds you may spot along the trail include the blue jay, the yellow-crowned night heron or even the largest woodpecker in North America: the pileated woodpecker. With a bright red crest and black body, the pileated woodpecker was the inspiration for Woody Woodpecker.
