About the Bishop's Palace:
The Bishop's Palace survived the 1900 hurricane and is now part of Galveston's Historic Homes Tour. This Victorian castle was designed by Nicholas Clayton and built by Colonel Walter Gresham. The construction covered six years, from 1886 to 1892. Following the 1900 hurricane and subsequent construction of Galveston's seawall, the Bishop's Palace was one of nearly 3,500 remaining structures on Galveston Island that was elevated as the island was fortified against future storms. The Bishop's Palace has been named one of the 100 most important buildings in American by the American Institute of Architects.
