By , About.com Guide

Visitors hoping to spend New Year’s in Texas should strongly consider Austin in their travel plans. Not only is Austin the State Capitol of Texas, it is also one of the Lone Star State’s most notorious party towns. The combination of history, importance and revelry ensures anyone can have a complete vacation experience in Austin over New Year’s weekend.

Throughout December, Austin will be showcasing its annual Trail of Lights, which is a must-see for visitors of all ages. Of course, there are plenty of other attractions to visit in Austin, including the Capitol, world-class museums, natural attractions and more.

Come New Year’s Eve, most everyone will be either in one of Austin’s breathtaking hotels or partying on the city’s famed 6th Street.

And, of course, anyone finding themselves in the Capitol City on New Year’s Eve will certainly want to be a part of First Night Austin. This unique event, which is held every New Year’s Eve, includes an afternoon family festival, a procession down Congress Avenue, and a night-time art show and festival which features steet corners and storefronts converted into art galleries and stages.

Regardless of your interests, there will certainly be something that strikes your fancy in Austin as 2007 fades into 2008. However, a word to the wise, it is best not to hesitate in finding accommodations, as the city books up quickly for the holiday weekend.
