Brownsville International Birding Festival
Border Birding Event Offers Chance At Seeing Variety of Birds

Birding has become extremely popular among Texas residents and visitors in recent years. This is particularly true in the South Texas Plains and Gulf Coast regions.

Each year, more and more birding events have been added to the calendar. For the past six years, the border town of Brownsville has been hosting the Brownsville International Birding Festival. Unfortunately, the event was postponed in 2008, but is scheduled to be held again on Feb. 12-14, 2009. However, even without this year's festival, there is plenty for birders to see and do in this border region.

Brownsville, which is part of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, is home to hundreds of species, many of which aren’t seen elsewhere in Texas or the United States.

Additionally, birders who wish to stay over for a few extra days will enjoy Brownsville’s close proximity to South Padre Island, Port Isabel, the World Birding Center and other South Texas towns and attractions.
