The Southeast Texas Mardi Gras was first staged in the early 1990s. However, Southeast Texas was quite familiar with Mardi Gras well before the first official Southeast Texas Mardi Gras was held. Situated between two towns with long-running Mardi Gras celebrations already being held annually - Galveston and New Orleans - Port Arthur was a perfect location to set yet another Mardi Gras celebration.
