Southeast Texas Mardi Gras

By , About.com Guide

Southeast Texas Mardi Gras Overview:
Galveston isn't the only Texas coastal community with Mardi Gras festivities. Just up the coast in Port Arthur - near the Louisiana border - is the Southeast Texas Mardi Gras. Featuring parades, concerts, street entertainment, carnival rides, fireworks and more, Port Arthur's Southeast Texas Mardi Gras Weekend is always fun for the whole family.
About the Southeast Texas Mardi Gras:
The Southeast Texas Mardi Gras was first staged in the early 1990s. However, Southeast Texas was quite familiar with Mardi Gras well before the first official Southeast Texas Mardi Gras was held. Situated between two towns with long-running Mardi Gras celebrations already being held annually - Galveston and New Orleans - Port Arthur was a perfect location to set yet another Mardi Gras celebration. Since that first event, the Southeast Texas Mardi Gras has grown to be a full-fledged event with parades, concerts, fireworks, kids' activities, and more.
Where the Southeast Texas Mardi Gras is Held:
The Southeast Texas Mardi Gras is held in downtown Port Arthur between Austin Ave and Atlanta Ave.
