San Antonio Festivals

By Danno Wise, About.com

San Antonio is Texas' most popular tourist destination by far. However, beyond all the exciting attractions available in the Alamo City are a number of great festivals that call San Antonio home on an annual basis.

1. San Antonio Mud Festival

The San Antonio River, home to the famous Riverwalk, is drained each January. But, even without water in the river, San Antonio still manages to find a way to throw a party. The annual Riverwalk Mud Festival celebrates the draining of the river and includes such crowd favorites as the Mud Pie Ball, King and Queen Coronation, Mud Art Contest and more.

2. Fiesta San Antonio

Fiesta San Antonio
Fiesta San Antonio is a massive festival featuring over 100 different events. Some of the most popular are the 10k and kids' runs, Fiesta Oyster Bake, Fiesta Mariachi Mass, Roundball Ruckus, arts fair, carnival and A Night in Old San Antonio.

3. Texas Folklife Festival

Sponsored by the Institute of Texan Cultures, San Antonio's Texas Folklife Festival is an annual celebration of the diverse cultures that combine to make Texas unique. The festival features live music, costume, arts & crafts, and more.

4. San Antonio Rodeo

Founded in 1950, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is one of the largest events of its kind in the United States. A huge stock show, live professional rodeo and great entertainment combine to make this one of the best entertainment bargains around.

5. Charreada

Staged by the San Antonio Charro Association, Charreada is a Mexican rodeo competition featuring traditional dress, events and music.
