Festivals in Texas During May

May in Texas sees pleasant weather and plenty of festivals. From Czech heritage to rivers to music and art, Texans find plenty of reasons to hold festivals during the month of May.

1. Greater Southwest Music Festival

Featuring over 10,000 music students and teachers, Amarillo's Greater Southwest Music Festival includes contests for choir, jazz band, show choir, orchestra, band, solo and ensemble. The competition is held in the Amarillo Civic Center.

2. Cottonwood Art Festival

Held in Cottonwood Park in Richardson, just outside of Dallas, the Cottonwood Art Festival is an outdoor art festival featuring over 200 artists from across the United States, England, and Canada, as well as live music, including country, rock, jazz, blues, swing and folk.

3. Pasadena Strawberry Festival

Pasadena's annual Strawberry Festival has been a Texas favorite for over three decades and features a wide variety of activities and entertainment including skydiving, bingo, live music, strawberry eating contests, strawberry cooking, barbecue cookoff, mud volleyball, a carnival and more.

4. Wildflower Arts & Music Festival

Held each year in Richardson, the Wildflower Arts & Music Festival features local, regional and national musical acts performing live, as well as singer/songwriter contests, arts and crafts show, interactive displays, petting zoo and plenty of other activities for the whole family.

5. Port Neches RiverFest

Held at Port Neches Park, Riverfest includes boat races, live music, arts and crafts, a fishing tournament, fireworks and more.

6. Maifest

Held each year in Brenham, Maifest is one of the oldest German festivals in Texas, having been staged for nearly 120 years. The event features parades, pageants, food, crafts and more.

7. San Antonio Charreada

Staged by the San Antonio Charro Association, Charreada is a Mexican rodeo competition featuring traditional dress, events and music.

8. Kerrville Folk Festival

Having run continuously since 1972, the Kerrville Folk Festival is the longest running festival of its type in North America. Lasting 18 days, the festival features over 100 songwriters, concerts, arts & crafts, kids concerts and more.

9. National Polka Festival

Featuring a colorful Czech parade, live music, arts & crafts, a horseshoe tournament, traditional Czech foods, dancing and a 5k run, Ennis' annual National Polka Festival is the largest Czech heritage festival in the United States.

10. Dallas Art Festival

Held over Memorial Day weekend each year for over three decades, the Dallas Art Fest features a "run for the arts," live music, children's activities and fine artists from across the country.
