Redfish Cup Championship to be Held in Texas
South Padre Island Chosen to Host Title Event

By Danno Wise, About.com

For most of 2005, South Padre Island looked forward to hosting its first ever Redfish Cup event. However, when Hurricane Rita began making its way towards Texas, the event was cancelled.

However, once the storm had passed, leaving the South Texas coast unscathed, event organizers began looking at South Padre as a location to host the season-ending championship event. Due to the earlier passage of Hurricane Katrina, the championship had been moved from Biloxi, Mississippi to Clearwater, Florida. But, when the South Padre event, which was to be the final qualifying event, was cancelled it was necessary to use Clearwater as the final qualifier. Thus, the opening for a new championship venue.

Once everything was considered, South Padre Island was given the nod to host the championship event. The event is slated for Nov. 11-13 and will feature the top 40 teams from the year-long series.
