World's Largest Surf Fishing Tournament

Hundreds of anglers are expected to “hit the beach” on South Padre Island for the third annual “KOA World’s Largest Surf Fishing Tournament.” The event, which is set for Feb. 21, 2009, is a perfect opportunity for casual and avid anglers alike to participate in a fun, competitive setting and lend a hand to helping our coastal environment. Event organizers have also applied to the Guinness Book of World Records to certify the event as the offical “World’s Largest Fishing Tournament,” giving participants a chance to be part of a world-record setting event. Last year's tournament did, indeed, set a Guiness record, so this year plans are to top it.

Participants will compete in three age groups – Small Fry, Junior, and Adult – ensuring anglers of all ages have an opportunity to win prizes. And, since the competition is held on public beaches, everyone will have an equal opportunity to “get to the fish.”

The tournament will also double as a beach cleanup effort. Each participant will be given a small drawstring bag at the beginning of the day.

The event runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prize packages will be awarded to all winners. Entry fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children. To register, visit www.fishacrosstexas.com.
