Guide Review - Get-A-Way Adventures Lodge

The tiny village of Port Mansfield is legendary for the fishing access it provides to the Texas' Lower Laguna Madre bay system. Located on the water in Port Mansfield is one of Texas' finest saltwater fishing lodges - Get-A-Way Adventures Lodge.

Owned and operated by personable hosts Capt. Bruce and Shirley Shuler, Get-A-Way offers fishermen much more than just a 'place to lay their head' after a day on the water. Each room is comfortable and the main lodge house features a big screen television, pool table and ample dining space. In that dining space, guests are treated to some of the finest food to be found at a fishing lodge, thanks to Shirley and her staff.

Outside, spacious decks offer visitors an unobstructed view of Mansfield Harbor and the Lower Laguna. Guests also have access to a swimming pool and hot tub. Those who didn't get their fill of fishing during the daylight hours also have the option of fishing off the lighted dock at night.

Although Port Mansfield is somewhat logistically challenging - as it is, after all, literally at the end of the road - a visit there can also be very rewarding for fishermen. And, those looking to make the trek to this fishing village would be well-served to stay at Get-A-Way Adventures Lodge.

I could write for days about Get Away Adventures Lodge and all the Port Mansfield has to offer, just a few of the options available to anglers are sight casting to redfish, chasing trophy speckled trout, or fishing the ledges and drop offs for the world famous flounder. For thos interested in larger species, head out the east cut and and within minutes chase terpon, kingfish, snapper, shark etc.. Get Away Adventures Lodge offers world class hunting packages as well... But one of the most over looked aspects of Get Away Adventures Lodge is their desire and effort to give back to their community and fellow man. They donate numerous trips per year to benefit various groups and organizations, they give give freely of themselves to benefit individuals on a regular basis and ask for nothing in return. They host multiple events each and every year designed to attract kids to fishing and the outdoors all at their expense. Bruce and Shirley Shuler are some of the most hospitable people I've had the pleasure to meet, the minute you arrive you feel right at home. The hardest part of any trip to their lodge is when it comes time to leave..
