2009 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
A Stock Show As Big As Texas

By Danno Wise, About.com

Houston Rodeo
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a long-standing Houston tradition. In fact, 2009 marks the 77th year anniversary of the HLSR.

To celebrate the occassion, more than 30,000 participants are entered in the livestock show portion of the event and over 1 million spectators are expected to watch the rodeo events, which are spread across the three-week duration of the show.

But, of course, when most folks think about the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, they think entertainment. In addition to watch rodeo, livestock and horse competition, those attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will find plenty of events, including the second largest fair in North America! A world-class barbecue cook-off, carnival, petting zoo and more can be found on the fairgrounds adjacent the Stock Show. Inside Reliant Park visitors will be amazed at the number of vendors displaying their wares.

However, despite everything else they are getting for their entertainment dollar, spectators are most interested in the music concerts that are staged each day of the Stock Show. Each year some of the biggest names in music come to Houston to entertain the Stock Show crowd. This year is no different. Popular country band Rascal Flatts kicks off the show on March 3. The show, which runs until March 22, also showcases such big names as Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers and more.

All in all, the 2009 edition of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo promises to be a memorable event. And, whether you are a regular Stock Show patron, or a first-time visitor, you should clear some time during the first three weeks of March, venture to Reliant Park and see what the largest stock show in the United States is all about.
