Texas' reputation as a state with a varied and storied music scene is not without foundation. And, Texans often like to celebrate their musical heritage and taste with festivals and celebrations. From blues to country, from Reggae to folk, Texas has a festival for every genre of music.

1. Austin City Limits Music Festival

One of the largest and most popular music festivals in the country, the Austin City Limits Music Festival features in excess of 100 performing acts offering a mix of music from various genres.

2. Roundtop International Guitar Festival

Held at the International Festival-Institute in Round Top, the International Guitar Festival features a variety of a musicians as well as the Round Top Philharmonic.

3. Kerrville Folk Festival

Having run continuously since 1972, the Kerrville Folk Festival is the longest running festival of its type in North America. Lasting 18 days, the festival features over 100 songwriters, concerts, arts & crafts, kids concerts and more.

4. Greater Southwest Music Festival

Featuring over 10,000 music students and teachers, Amarillo's Greater Southwest Music Festival includes contests for choir, jazz band, show choir, orchestra, band, solo and ensemble. The competition is held in the Amarillo Civic Center.

5. National Polka Festival

Featuring a colorful Czech parade, live music, arts & crafts, a horseshoe tournament, traditional Czech foods, dancing and a 5k run, Ennis' annual National Polka Festival is the largest Czech heritage festival in the United States.

6. Austin Reggae Festival

Austin Reggae Festival
The Austin Reggae Festival is one of the largest and most popular Reggae music festivals in Texas. Featuring nearly a dozen bands, the Austin Reggae Festival treats attendees to two full day of live music.

7. South Padre Island Music Festival

Set to take place Oct. 31 - Nov. 2, 2008, the South Padre Music Festival will feature 30 bands playing on the Island over a three-day period.

8. South By Southwest Music Festival

Held in Austin each March, South By Southwest (SXSW) is one of the top music festivals in the country. Event performers cover over 50 stages in downtown Austin.
