Other Festivals and Celebrations

Some Texas festivals just don't fit into a category. Although these unique events aren't easily classified, they certainly are loads of fun and worth attending.
Great Texas Mosquito Festival
Next to barbecue and bulls, Texas is best known for mosquitoes. So, why not celebrate them? That is exactly what they do in Clute during the Great Texas Mosquito Festival. This annual event features a barbecue/fajita cook-off, paintball tournament, karaoke, a Mosquito Chase “Run,” and more. Paying homage to a pest has never been so much fun!
Texas Renaissance Festival
One of Texas' most recognized annual events, the Texas Renaissance Festival runs from October through November. Visitors shouldn't miss an opportunity to attend this unique, eight-week theme park which features period food, music, and entertainment, as well as eight themed weekends.
Washington's Birthday Celebration
Believe it or not, the country's largest and longest-running tribute to America's first president is held each year in Laredo, Texas. Founded in 1898, Washington's Birthday Celebration is a month-long party that runs from mid-January through mid-February. Washington's Birthday Celebration attracts over 400,000 visitors each year.
Rockport Seafair
Featuring crab races, dancing, live entertainment, seafood and more, the Rockport Seafair has become one of the most popular events on the Texas coast. Seafair also includes a water entertainment area, carnival and fishing tournament.
Cowboy Mardi Gras
Held annually in Bandera, the "Cowboy Capital of the World," Cowboy Mardi Gras blends traditional Mardi Gras customs with country fashion.
Texas VW Classic
Staged annually in Fredricksburg, the Texas VW Classic is a gathering of classic Volkswagens owners and aficionados. The event includes a car show, sunset cruise to Enchanted Rock State Park, a Saturday afternoon Bluebonnet Cruise, and a evening barbecue.
Middlefaire Renaissance Festival
Held just north of Hillsboro, the Middlefaire Renaissance Festival celebrates 17th century life with a full array of English villagers, including gypsies, pirates, merchants, and tradesman. Spectators are able to tour the grounds and take part in a variety of festival activities. Primitive camping is also available onsite.
