Rusk Overview:
Cherokee County's county seat, the Piney Woods town of Rusk is a stop on the Texas Forest Trail and boasts 32 state historical markers.
Rusk History:
Rusk, the county seat of Cherokee County, was named after Thomas J. Rusk, who practiced law in Cherokee County from 1829 to 1856. Rusk was also quite socially and politically active. It is said he held more official positions than anyone else in the Republic of Texas. Texas' first native-born governor, Jim Hogg, was born just oustide of Rusk in 1891.

Rusk Attractions:
The Texas State Railroad, which runs between Rusk and Palestine, is a huge draw for Rusk. Motorsports are also popular in the area, with race fans having plenty to cheer for at both Cherokee County Motorsports Park and Thunder Mountain Motor Park. Rusk also features a pair of golf courses, Cherokee Trace Drive Thru Safari, Jim Hogg City Park, the Rusk Footbridge and numerous historical sites.
