The Town of South Padre Island has been and will be offering updates on the recovery status until things are back to normal. However, at this time, visitors with reservations on South Padre Island during late July or early August are not expected to be able to keep those reservations, as many hotels sustained considerable damage and won't be able to accommodate guests for some time, even after power is restored.
Port Mansfield is expected to be without power until early August. Due to both the power outage and damage to infrastructure, the Port Mansfield Fishing Tournament has been postponed from July 24 to August 14. That event typically draws around 500 participants.
Texas' largest salt water fishing tournament, the Texas International Fishing Tournament in Port Isabel/South Padre Island, set for July 30 - Aug. 3, has been cancelled. TIFT has averaged around 1,500 participants annually the last few years.
At the moment, it would seem as if not reservation on the South Texas coast is assured. Visitors are encouraged to contact the hotel they intend to stay at to confirm any pending reservations. However, since power is still out, it has been difficult for many visitors to get in contact with management at some hotels. Communications problems are expected to continue until power is restored. If you are unable to reach your hotel by phone, it is safe to assume your reservations wont be honored unless the hotel notifies you otherwise.
