Houston Marathon
Annual Race is Largest Single Sporting Event in Bayou City

By , About.com Guide

Sunday, January 17 is the 2010 Chevron Houston Marathon. This event, which began in 1972 with 113 runners, has grown into the largest single sporting event in the city of Houston. This annual event, which now has nearly 18,000 particpants, has also grown to include a half-marathon and 5k run as well. To round out the weekend, the Texas Children’s Hospital Fun Run, which is open to kids in grades Kinder through 8th, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Unfortunately for aspiring marathoners, this year’s edition is already sold out and registration is closed. However, there will still plenty of spectator space available, so make plans to be there to cheer the runners on.
