Cotton Bowl Classic

Annual New Year's Day College Football Tradition

By Danno Wise, About.com

New Year’s Day 2008 will see the 72nd edition of the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. One of the oldest college football bowl games, the Cotton Bowl has been a Dallas tradition since its founding in 1937.

Over the year’s, the Cotton Bowl has developed a reputation for being one of the most competitive and exciting post season college football games each year. This year’s game promises to live up to that reputation, as the 6th ranked Missouri Tigers clash with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Although Missouri had hoped to be in the national title game, they enter the Cotton Bowl feeling a need to prove they were worth the hype they received prior to falling to Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game. On the other side of the field, the Razorbacks were one of only two teams to hand a loss to the LSU Tigers, the team that benefitted from Mizzou's slip.

Of course, the Cotton Bowl traditionally involves much more than the game itself and this year is no exception. The annual Cotton Bowl Parade will be held on New Year’s Eve in downtown Dallas and the Cotton Bowl Music Festival is set to run from Dec. 29 through Jan. 1.
