Texas Cornbread Recipe

Cornbread is a staple side for a variety of dishes served in the Lone Star State. From fish to chili, if it's worth eating, it's often accompanied by cornbread.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 3 1/2 cups water
  • 2 cups cornmeal
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 med onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp Tabasco
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • cooking oil
Preparation:
Chop onion. Bring water to boil. Combine cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, salt, pepper, onion and Tabasco in seperate bowl. Slowly add mixture to boiling water, stirring constantly. Once mixture is complete, drop from spoon into 350 degree oil. Fry until brown. Yields about 3 dozen.
