What is Texas' Best Bass Fishing Lake?

By , About.com Guide

Question: What is Texas' Best Bass Fishing Lake?

Texas is well known for its quality bass fishing. In fact, hundreds of thousands of anglers head to the Lone Star State each year in search of trophy bass. Thanks to good management and conservation practices, Texas has dozens of lakes capable of producing trophy bass. So, what is the best bass fishing lake in Texas?

Answer: Every region of Texas has at least one public lake capable of producing 10 pound bass. Traditional lakes such as Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend continue to quietly produce loads of solid largemouth. A trio of South Texas lakes - Amistad, Falcon and Choke Canyon - have garnered a lot of attention in recent years for the number of double-digit fish they've produced.

That said, until these lakes consistently produce fish capable of cracking the all-time Texas Top 10 list, the title of Best Bass Lake in Texas remains with Lake Fork. Although Fork doesn't crank out the sheer volume of 5 to 10 pound fish that Amistad, Falcon and Choke do, it still holds the top 7 spots on the all-time Top 50 list for Texas. In fact, Fork-caught fish occupy 35 of the Top 50 slots, making it the best bet in Texas for catching a truly epic largemouth bass.
