Oddball Texas
Travel Book Points Out the Odd and Unusual

By Danno Wise, About.com

Anyone looking to head to Texas on vacation this summer would be well-served to pick up a copy of the Texas travel book, Oddball Texas by Jerome Pohlen. Oddball Texas is not your typical travel book, making it an interesting addition to any list of travel guides. Rather than rehashing the same old routes and attractions, Oddball Texas focuses on unique, extra-ordinary, and unusual attractions, such as the World's Largest Rocking Chair, World's Largest Rattlesnake, and Munster Mansion.

Most of the attractions listed in Oddball Texas aren’t really worth going too far out of your way for, unless you’re the type of traveler who relishes in collecting photos and souvenirs from quirky attractions. However, being aware of these attractions can make your Lone Star State roadtrip a lot more fun if you happen to be passing by. And, Oddball Texas is well organized, with sections for each of the state's six geographic regions as well as major Texas cities like Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. As a special bonus - especially for history and conspiracy buffs - is the "JFK Tour" chapter, which pinpoints the locations of the Texas School Book Depository, Oswald's Rooming House, Jack Ruby's Apartment, and more.

It can't be said that Oddball Texas is an essential travel guide, because it's not. It is certainly possible to travel across Texas without it. However, if you want to get a few extra kicks and make your trip a truly memorable one, it is a priceless reference guide.
