2008 Texas Bowl

By , About.com Guide

Throughout late December and early January, visitors to Texas have the additional attraction of college football bowl games. But, although the Lone Star State has a long-standing tradition of hosting a handful of games, 2008 marks just the third year of existence for Houston's Texas Bowl.

Dec. 30, 2008 is the date for the annual Texas Bowl. Set to be played at Reliant Stadium in Houston, the Texas Bowl has quickly become a fan favorite. With bids being handed out to teams from the Mid-American Conference and Conference USA, the Texas Bowl should consistently play host to top-flight football teams.

In year one, event organizers hoped to provide fans with plenty of thrills, which they did. Year two waseven more exciting for fans of the now-defunct Southwest Conference, as former SWC foes Texas Christian University and the University of Houston clashed. This year, another former Southwest Conference team, the Rice Owls, will take on Western Michigan in the Texas Bowl.

Without a doubt, football fans finding themselves in Houston on Dec. 30 will want to attend this year's Texas Bowl.
