Texans love spending time on the state's various rivers. Whether it be float tubes, canoes, kayaks or rope swings - Texas residents and visitors are full of ways to enjoy these rivers and streams. If you are hoping to sample some "river recreation" on your visit to Texas, try a few of these top spots.

1. New Braunfels

The very spot wher "floating the Guad" was invented, New Braunfels offers excellent access to Texas' famed Guadalupe River. Float tubing, kayaking, swimming and fishing are just a few of the recreational opportunities available on this stretch of the Guadalupe.

2. San Marcos

San Marcos is one of the most popular small towns in Texas. Located in the Texas Hill Country, San Marcos is a short drive from either Austin or San Antonio and offers excellent river recreation opportunities on the scenic San Marcos River - which winds right through town.

3. Concan

Home to one of the best stretches of the Frio River - and only Garner State Park - tiny Concan offers 'river rats' some of the best stretches of river in the Lone Star State.

4. Del Rio

A town which is named for the river it is built near, Del Rio serves as the hub for water sports on the upper stretches of Texas' Rio Grande River. In addition to the traditional water sports, many tourists head out of Del Rio in search of adventure aboard a houseboat.

5. Blanco
